Sour-faced Parents Who Suddenly Show Up Can Really Ruin the Mood
In The Sheik & the Princess in Waiting by Susan
Mallery, Emma Kennedy discovers that the "pretend" wedding ceremony and honeymoon she
and Reyhan had in the
Caribbean six years ago was, in fact, real.
It certainly is quite hard to tell the difference, particularly the honeymoon part.
But she had no idea that her "pretend" husband, is actually Prince Reyhan: the son of the
king of Bahania. Annoyed that his son has been married for years without saying a word about
it, the monarch sends two men to
retrieve Emma from Dallas and asks her to spend two weeks with Reyhan before he will allow their marriage
to be annulled.
Emma is game, and soon remembers why she fell for Reyhan in the first place. Things get
cosy between them once again...but toward the middle of the book the unthinkable happens. After a hot
night of passion, her parents
show up at the palace and demand that she return home to the States with them! And they
continue to stay at the palace!
They are definitely an unwelcome sight, particularly when Emma discovers that her parents
blocked Reyhan from seeing her once he returned to the States after a family funeral
all those years ago. And they are really annoying people, who function as a bucket of cold
water on a moonlit desert night. Not surprisingly, the lovin' comes to an abrupt halt for
quite awhile--the romantic mood
gets pretty...uh...deflated, to say the least.
Instead of steel-toeing their fannies onto the next outbound plane, the two sourpusses are invited
to stay on at the palace where they can continue to grate on everyone's nerves. Fortunately, the
king, in his wisdom, puts them on a
yacht for a luxury cruise on the Mediterranean...where one hopes they will sail around
indefinitely so that the fire between Emma and Reyhan somehow can be ignited once more.
Luckily, a last-minute kidnapping and subsequent rescue ensures that it does.
