Barbara Faith. Flower of the Desert. New York: Silhouette, 1988.
Jasmine Hasir is partying hard at Princeton when stern-faced Raj Ben Hajad shows up to
take her home...back to Morocco. Her great-grandfather, "Grandgramps", has just
suffered a stroke and her parents have sent Raj to escort her back
to her homeland.
Concerned about her beloved Grandgramps, Jasmine eagerly returns to Morocco to see him...and
soon finds herself drawn to the tall, darkly handsome Raj. When Grandgramps insists on the entire
family accompanying him on a trip into the desert, Jasmine agrees to go. As does Raj.
After a dangerous
sandstorm, she and Raj are drawn even closer, but they truly discover their love for each
other when she is abducted by the evil tribesman, Ali al-Hameen, who is intent on keeping her as his woman. Raj
manages to find her and bravely rescue her from this undesirable fate.
But what could the future possibly hold for Jasmine and Raj? She has no desire to robe and veil herself as
a "proper" Moroccan wife, and she knows that Raj would expect nothing less from his bride. Will the two
lovers be able to meet halfway and share a future?
