Sara Wood. Perfumes of Arabia. New York: Harlequin, 1986.
Englishwoman Jeannie Bennett takes a job in the desert country of Riyam to coordinate
primary education. Soon after her arrival she meets Tarik, a masterful, dynamic and ruthless man.
Normally she hates men like him, but soon she finds herself mesmerized by the
exotic surroundings of Riyam.
Having been burned by an Englishwoman in the past, Tarik dissuades her from staying in his
country to fulfill her employment contract. He tells her that she will never fit in, and that
she will run into opposition everywhere she turns.
Jeannie is confused by the actions of this enigmatic man, particularly after he
tries to seduce her. Had the tender moment been some kind of twisted means to
frighten her off? No...she couldn't have mistaken the
burning desire in his eyes.
